Radiantly Impacted
Some people have touched my life, and never left.
The lessons they imparted, loving linger on.
The memory of them, sweetly melted on my soul.
Lorin Roche is one of those people.
Julie Smerdon invited me to a meditation training with Lorin and his wife Camille.
It was an experience that changed my life.
Until then, meditation felt like a restrictive cage match. Lorin taught me that every perception is an invitation into revelation. That running water over my hands, a smile from a stranger, the sound of guitar strings, laugher, grief—all are portals into meditation, not distractions from it.
This rewrote the entire script for me.
Life become a playground. Every sensation a dance partner, courting me constantly.
Lorin passed in April 2026.
He was kind enough to leave us all with a timeless gift.
A book of poems.
The Radiance Sutras
This is the first poem I ever read of his.
And still my favourite.
—
The senses declare an outrageous world.
Sounds and scents, ravishing colours and shapes,
Ever-changing skies, iridescent reflections.
All these beautiful surfaces,
Decorating vibrant emptiness.
The god of love is courting you,
Light as a feather.
Every perception is an invitation into revelation.
Hearing, seeing, smelling, tasting, touching.
Ways of knowing creation
Transmissions of electric realisation.
The deepest reality is always right here.
Encircled by splendour, in the centre of the sphere.
Meditate where the body thrills
To currents of intimate communion.
Follow your senses to the end and beyond
Into the heart of space.

Beyond the words on the pages, Lorin infused a different legacy for me.
